Oktoberfest beer prices take the froth off the fun

calls for the installation of a price cap after government figures show an average liter Munich increased from ? 6.55 to ? 9.35 in 10 years

is the time of year when the Germans take their beer mugs or Bierseidels, don costumes and join the pilgrimage to Munich to drink large quantities of beer and partying at the annual Oktoberfest .

But this year, the festival has been affected by a dispute over the cost of beer as a group complaint hiking prices frightens the locals in the internationally renowned festival. Over the last 10 years, the average price per liter has increased from an average of ? 6.55 to ? 9.35 (? 7.47), according to figures from the city government of Munich. "The price of beer sold during Oktoberfest unreasonable increase each year," said Jan-Ulrich Bittlinger, president of the Association against fraudulent Pour (VGBE).

But the government said it has no place in the price of beer in a 'free market'.

"moderate beer prices are a concern for the government of the city and have a look at what the guests do not exaggerate their asking price," said Dieter Reiter, a senior Department of Labor and the Economy, responsible for the Oktoberfest.

"Everyone should be able to pay their Oktoberfest beer," he added.
